Sports Briefs: NYRA to feature ‘Stars at the Spa’

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The New York Racing Association will welcome three sports and television celebrities to Saratoga Race Course to meet with fans during this summer’s meet in the new “Stars at the Spa” series.

Scheduled to appear are former New York Knicks forward Charles Oakley on Sunday, July 24, “Real Housewives of New Jersey” personality Teresa Giudice on Sunday, July 31, and former New York Yankees all-star and World Series champion Bernie Williams on Sunday, Sept. 4.

The series will include a luncheon from 12-2 p.m. in the Paddock Suite. Each event will be limited to 50 guests. Tickets cost $200 per person and may be reserved at nyra.com.

Each star also will participate in a special photo and autograph session from 2-3 p.m. at the Jockey Silks Room Porch (separate ticket required). Photo opportunities and autographed photos will be available for $40 to the first 200 fans. No outside memorabilia will be allowed. Those tickets are also available at nyra.com.

RUSSELL SAGE’S CODDINGTON HONORED

Russell Sage’s John Coddington, a Broadalbin-Perth graduate, recently earned All-Region honors in the shot put.

Previously, Coddington was named the 2022 Empire 8 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year. At the 2022 Outdoor Championship, he won the hammer throw with a toss of 45.93 meters and finished third in the shot put with a throw of 14.16 meters. He competed in the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships in both events. He also established school records in the hammer throw, shot put and discus this spring.

Coddington also was named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year in an individual sport and was named the outdoor track and field Gator of the Year.
