Saratoga Springs High School English teacher Josh Johnson typically shows his dance moves off in school and on social media, but on Tuesday night they were broadcast on NBC’s “Dancing with Myself.”

The show features celebrities Shakira, Nick Jonas and Liza Koshy, who create a series of dance challenges inspired by viral trends and teach them to mostly amateur dancers isolated in dance pods. Audience members vote to determine the winners of each competition and the dancers compete to take home a cash prize.

“I love teaching. Just to get a little party started, I’ll get out there and throw some moves around,” Johnson said, during his introduction segment featured in Tuesday’s episode.

Johnson has no formal dance training but he grew up breakdancing in the 1980s and honed his craft on wedding dance floors in his 20s and 30s, according to a release from New York State United Teachers.

When he took his social media accounts public late last year and posted dance videos on Instagram, some went viral. He was contacted by someone casting for “Dancing with Myself” last year and went on to film the episode in Atlanta in March.

In Tuesday’s episode, Johnson performed in front of a live studio audience as well as Shakira, Jonas and Koshy.

He made it through the first several rounds, which included a dance challenge from Jonas, as well as a head-to-head freestyle challenge, but was eliminated after a challenge that had the dancers team up with one another.

“What an amazing experience! Can’t say enough about how cool it was to meet all these incredible people! I’m still in shock from watching it all on TV,” Johnson posted on social media Tuesday night.

New episodes of “Dancing with Myself” air at 10 p.m. Tuesdays on NBC. Johnson’s dance Instagram and TikTok is @superawesomedadding.
