Police: Schenectady woman charged in fatal Monday stabbing; Victim identified

SCHENECTADY – A city woman has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man on Avenue B Monday, police said.

Gabriella A. Beckwith, 22, of Schenectady, was arrested and charged with one count each of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence, felonies. 

Police identified the man she is accused of stabbing to death as Beyquan Campbell, 29, of Schenectady.

Beckwith also faces one count of misdemeanor weapons possession and three counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

Beckwith is accused of intending to cause serious physical injury to Campbell by stabbing him with a kitchen knife, causing his death, according to allegations filed in court.

Police based the accusations on their investigation and statements made by Beckwith.

Beckwith is also accused of hiding evidence of the assault in a closet.

The child endangerment allegations each relate to Beckwith allegedly stabbing Campbell to death “in the presence” of her three children.

Police did not igive further information on the case Tuesday, beyond announcing the arrest.

Police were called to the 1900 block of Avenue B at about 11:37 a.m. Monday for a report of a man being stabbed. Officers arrived and found the victim inside 1930 Avenue B, police said.

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics from the Schenectady Fire Department, but he eventually died from his wound.

Beckwith was arraigned and ordered held on $40,000 bail. She remained in custody later Tuesday.
