Police: Man arrested in Colonie gas station robbery, assault; Clerk’s leg, nose broken in attack

COLONIE A man has been arrested in connection with a Tuesday night gas station robbery and assault in Colonie, police said.

The attack left the clerk with a broken leg and a broken nose, police said.

Police arrested Matthew A. Lora, 24, listed as homeless, and charged him with one count each of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault, felonies.

The attack happened at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the ShopRite Fuel Center, 1728 Central Ave., police said.

Officers responded there for a report of a robbery. A man had entered the store, demanded money, assaulted the clerk and fled with a small amount of money, police said.

A short while later, a Colonie officer spotted the suspect on Sand Creek Road, not far from the location of the robbery. The man, identified as Lora, attempted to flee on foot, but was soon subdued and taken into custody, police said.

Lora was arraigned and ordered held pending a future court appearance.

The investigation remained ongoing Wednesday. Anyone with information was asked to contact detectives at 518-783-2754.

Ten years in prison for a couple hundred bucks sounds like a fair trade for someone like him. A guy that attacks and injures a person like him deserves what he gets.
