SCHENECTADY — City firefighters responded to a Victory Avenue fire on Thursday.
No injuries to residents were reported, but a firefighter suffered a minor injury treated at the scene, Fire Chief Don Mareno said.
When crews arrived at 114 Victory Ave., they discovered heavy fire in the rear of the building. The structure sustained heavy fire damage in the rear and on the second floor, as well as smoke and heat damage throughout, Mareno said, who noted the structure is salvageable.
The fire spread to neighboring structure, 116 Victory Ave., which Mareno said sustained exterior damage to the rear.

All occupants self-evacuated without injuries. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene, according to Mareno.
The fire was extinguished within 90 minutes.
Thursday’s 90-degree temperatures required the department to rotate crews out faster than usual, but the temperatures were not anything that first responders were not ready for, Mareno said.
“It definitely adds another layer,” he said. “But you live in the Northeast, you know what to expect. Extreme cold in the winter, extreme heat in the summer, and we’re ready for it.”
The fire remains under investigation.
