DEC: Injured Ballston Lake hiker helped from Mount Marcy in Essex County Sunday

KEENE An injured hiker from Ballston Lake was helped from Mount Marcy in Essex County Sunday, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said Tuesday.

The incident began at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday when a forest ranger found the 27-year-old injured hiker on the way down Mount Marcy, the DEC said.

The hiker had become separated from her family at the summit and took a wrong turn. The hiker then fell and hurt her leg, the DEC said. The hiker was not identified.

The ranger bandaged her injury and helped her to an outpost. A second ranger arrived at 10:40 p.m. and helped the hiker to the trailhead.

The hiker was then reunited with her family at 12:10 a.m.
