Two rangers then worked with New York State Police Aviation on a hoist operation at a lean-to near a pond there, officials said.

By 1 p.m., a ranger hoisted down to the 52-year-old hiker and safely put the hiker into a helicopter to take him to the hospital, officials said.

The DEC account did not provide further information on the hiker’s condition.
