The preliminary investigation indicated that the boy was on the side of he road when he either went into the road or went to cross the road, Collins said. The boy was at the park with his father, Collins said.

The driver, headed west on Curry Road, then didn’t have the ability to stop before striking the child, Collins said, citing their initial findings.

The Schenectady County Accident Reconstruction team helped with the investigation at the scene.

The investigation was continuing, Collins said.
