Saint Rose women’s second ranked second in preseason national poll

ALBANY — Coming off their 2021 NCAA Division II runner-up finish, The College of Saint Rose was ranked second in the United Soccer Coaches preseason national poll that was released Wednesday.

The Golden Knights return 27 players, including eight starters, from last year’s team that made the program’s eighth NCAA Division II Championship final four appearance. Saint Rose defeated Dallas Baptist 2-1 to advance to the program’s second NCAA final, where the Golden Knights fell 3-2 in double overtime to top-ranked Grand Valley State.

Saint Rose finished 18-2-4 in 2021, reaching the NCAA postseason for the 16th time in 19 years and capturing its record ninth Northeast-10 Conference title.

A pair of returnees in forward Mia Klammer and defender Sanna Rein garnered All-America honors, as did the now graduated keeper Marika Laurendeau and defender Ciera Lundy.

Saint Rose is scheduled to open its 2022 campaign on Aug. 27 at Daemen. The home opener is set for a week later, Sept. 3, against Jefferson.
