SCHENECTADY — The United States Tennis Association’s Eastern Section Championship tournaments will again be held at Schenectady’s Central Park this year, with the first action underway this weekend, the USTA and Discover Schenectady announced.

Top amateurs from New York State, northern and central New Jersey and southern Connecticut will compete in four different age brackets — 18-and-over, 40-and-over, 55-and-over and 65-and-over.

The first tournament began Friday and will run through Sunday, with the other tournament dates set for Aug. 12-14, Aug. 19-21, Sept. 9-11 and Sept. 16-18. The tournaments are open to the public and free for spectators, and food vendors will be on hand.

“USTA Eastern has an incredible working relationship with Discover Schenectady and the city has been home to our sectional championships for nearly 10 years,” USTA Eastern executive director and CEO Jennifer Schnitzer said in a news release. “The relationship we have with Discover Schenectady and the city has enhanced the experience that staff and players have, and we hope we can continue to build on our success for many years to come.”
