Pingitore helps Albany Athletics win Game 2 of Twilight League Championship Series

ALBANY — RJ Pingitore executed a safety squeeze in the top of the eighth inning for the go-ahead run, as the Albany Athletics beat the Albany Thunder 3-1 in Game 2 of the Albany Twilight League Championship Series on Sunday at Bleecker Stadium.

The series is tied 1-1.

The Athletics added an insurance run when Nate Novak scored from second base on an attempted 6-4-3 double play, but the runner at first was safe. 

Reliever Derek Duval earned the win with 2 1-3 innings pitched, four strikeouts and just one hit.

Dan Barbero Jr. doubled in the Thunder’s only run in the fourth inning.

Game 3 is Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Bleecker.
