NEWBURGH — A Gansevoort woman was arrested Sunday and charged with felonies for allegedly driving while intoxicated with her two children in the vehicle.

State police responded Sunday night around 9:15 p.m. to a report of a single-car crash on I-87 north in Newburgh. State police said the driver of the vehicle, Maria C. Gebremichael, 37, of Gansevoort, was intoxicated while traveling with her children, 6 and 8 years old.

Gebremichael was arrested and her two children were turned over to a relative. No injuries were reported, state police said.

Gebremichael’s blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.10%, according to state police. She was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle, a class E felony.

Gebremichael was turned over to a sober third party and issued an appearance ticket for Newburgh Town Court to appear in August.
