JOHNSTOWN — A 7-year-old boy is dead after being found unresponsive Tuesday afternoon in Johnstown, according to New York State Police.
State police in Fonda said they received a call at 3:23 p.m. Tuesday for reports of an unresponsive 7-year-old boy, later identified as Hunter Degroat, in his Johnstown home.
Life-saving measures were performed on Degroat but were unsuccessful, according to a press release. He was pronounced dead at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
“A family member called 911 and an autopsy will be conducted as soon as possible,” said Stephanie L. O’Neil, the acting public information officer for Troop G.
Additional details on the case are limited, O’Neil said, as it is still under investigation.
A statement from HFM BOCES Superintendent David Ziskin reads, in part: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Hunter Degroat. Hunter was a student in one of our programs until this past February. Our programs are small and close-knit. During this very difficult time, we will make every effort to support our students and staff who knew Hunter.”
