SCHENECTADY COUNTY – The New York State Department of Transportation is advising drivers of upcoming overnight ramp closures on I-890 and Route 5S to the New York State Thruway exit 26 in Rotterdam August 14-17.

The closures are necessary for a resurfacing project and drivers should follow the posed detours according to the announcement from the department of transportation.

The closures will take place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the following days and locations:

  • On Sunday night, Aug. 14, at the ramp from eastbound State Route 890 to the Thruway. Motorists will be detoured to I-890 Exit 3, where they can loop around to westbound I-890 to access the Thruway entrance.
  • On Monday night, Aug. 15, at the ramp from Thruway Exit 26 to westbound State Route 890 and the ramp from eastbound State Route 5S to westbound State Route 890. Motorists will be detoured to I-890 Exit 3, where they can loop around to westbound I-890 to access the Thruway entrance.
  • On Tuesday night, Aug. 16, at the ramp from westbound Exit 1B of I-890 to the Thruway. Motorists will be detoured to Route 5, Route 103 and Route 5S to reach the Thruway.

Motorists should continue to watch for periodic overnight ramp closures as work continues. NYSDOT urges drivers to slow down and drive responsibly especially in work zones. Speeding fines are doubled in work zones and being convicted of two or more speeding violations in a work zone can result in the suspension of a driver’s license.

NYSDOT reminds drivers to Move Over a lane if it is safe to do so or to significantly reduce their speed whenever encountering roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.
