TROY — The Tri-City ValleyCats worked the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday night, then a pair of missteps by the Empire State Greys provided the opening for the hosts to steal a 5-4 Frontier League victory at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
An error by Greys third baseman Manny Garcia allowed Cito Culver to score the tying run, as well as extended the inning. Next, Greys reliever Jesus Rosario — facing ValleyCats left fielder Jesus Lujano — threw a wild pitch, bringing home Pavin Parks with the tie-breaking run.
Parks also delivered an RBI single in the fifth inning to begin the rally, and Denis Phipps hit his league-leading 28th home run.
Tri-City (41-34) is one game behind the New York Boulders for the East Division’s third and final playoff berth with 20 games to play. The ValleyCats return to action Saturday night against the Greys (5-71) at 7.
