TROY — Austin Elder’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Carson McCusker with the winning run as the Tri-City ValleyCats pulled out a 9-8 walk-off victory over the Empire State Greys on Saturday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

It was a back-and-forth game that saw the ValleyCats (42-34) rally from an early 6-2 deficit to take an 8-6 lead in the seventh, only for Empire State to tie the game on a two-run double by Khalyd Cox in the top of the eighth.

However, Trey Cochran-Gill came out of the bullpen and avoided further damage in the eighth, then pitched a scoreless ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, McCusker ripped a one-out triple to right field, and after Jesus Lujano was intentionally walked, Elder’s flyout to center brought home McCusker to win the game.

McCusker finished the day 3 for 4 at the plate, while Brantley Bell was 2 for 5 with a two-run homer in the first inning that extended his hitting streak to 25 games. Lujano, Joe Campagna and Cito Culver each added two hits for the ValleyCats, who will wrap up their series against the Greys on Sunday at 5 p.m.
