ValleyCats take two from Titans

TROY — Carson McCusker hit two of Tri-City’s five home runs, and the ValleyCats scored six times in the first inning to beat the Ottawa Titans 10-8 in the second Frontier League game the two teams played Thursday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

In the completion of Wednesday’s suspended game, the ValleyCats overcame a 3-0 deficit to win 6-3.

McCusker hit his first homer in the opening inning of the nightcap. Brad Zunica hit a two-run homer in the inning. Also in the first, Brantley Bell had an RBI triple and scored on Pavin Parks’ single. Joey Campagna added an RBI single.

McCusker hit another solo homer in the sixth. Jace Murcer Campagna hit solo homers in the third.

In the opener, the ValleyCats tied the score in the fourth on a Denis Phipps two-run homer and a solo shot by Zunica.

The ValleyCats took a 4-3 in the fifth on an RBI fielder’s choice by Brantley Bell. Phipps added a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Tri-City’s final run came in the sixth on an Austin Elder RBI single.

The ValleyCats begin a three-game series at the Trois-Rivieres Aigles at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
