Saratoga DA: Indictment in fatal March car-pedestrian Ballston crash; Milton driver drove impaired, DA says

BALLSTON SPA A Malta woman has been indicted in a March crash that left one person dead and another injured, Saratoga County District Attorney’s officials said.

She is accused of driving while impaired on cannabis and then causing the person’s death and severely injuring the other person.

Adrianne D. Liedel, 20, of Malta, was arraigned Thursday afternoon on a new indictment charging her with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, first-degree vehicular assault and other charges.

Liedel is accused of striking the two pedestrians while heading south March 15 on Hop City Road. Her car crossed into the northbound lane and struck the pedestrians.

Killed in the crash was Harold M. Townsend, 72, of Ballston. Injured was Janet T. Townsend, 71, also of Balllston, according to Gazette news gathering partner CBS6.

“The arrest of the defendant was the result of a lengthy investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office,” Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen said in a statement. “The return of an indictment by the Grand Jury in this case reflects the thorough and complete investigation done by our law enforcement partners at the Sheriff’s Office.”

Leidel was arraigned and ordered held on $100,000 bail.
