FULTON COUNTY – Two men, one from Gloversville and the other Rotterdam, have been arrested in connection with a forged check scam in Fulton County, New York State Police said.
Elijah N. Jacobs, 31, of Gloversville, and Brian H. Fernau, 31, of Rotterdam, were each arrested in connection with the scam Wednesday, police said.
Troopers were initially notified Monday by two First Choice Financial Federal Credit Union branches in Fulton County that four fraudulent checks had been cashed at the financial institutions that day, police said.
The investigation then led investigators to Jacobs and Fernau, that they had each cashed two checks at the banks, police said.
Troopers then determined Fernau had attempted to cash a forged check Wednesday at a TCT Federal Credit Union in Saratoga County, police said.
Jacobs faces two counts each of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and third-degree grand larceny, felonies. Fernau faces three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, two counts of third-degree grand larceny, felonies, and one count of fourth-degree attempted grand larceny, a misdemeanor.
Jacobs was arraigned and remanded to the Fulton County Correctional Facility. Fernau was arraigned and released to return to court later.
