TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Quebec — Cito Culver and Denis Phipps each hit two-run homers to lead the Tri-City ValleyCats to an 8-1 Frontier League victory over the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Sunday.
Culver’s home run capped a five-run second-inning for the ValleyCats (47-35). Jace Mercer had a two-run single, and Austin Bernard delivered an RBI double.
Phipps hit his homer in the eighth.
Brad Zunica hit a solo homer in the third.
The victory keeps the ValleyCats in second place in the East Division and in firm control of a playoff berth.
The ValleyCats are off Monday. They return to action Tuesday with a doubleheader at the Ottawa Titans.
