
ROOT – An Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter employee was seriously injured after being attacked by two dogs at the shelter Monday morning at the facility, Montgomery County Sheriff’s officials said.
The staff member was taken by helicopter to Albany Medical Center for treatment of what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Fulton County Sheriff deputies and other rescuers responded at 9:41 a.m. to the shelter located on Hilltop Road in the town of Root for a female employee who had been attacked by two mixed breed dogs, officials said. Officials did not immediately identify the woman.

The Rural Grove Fire Department and the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corp. also responded to the scene.
The dogs are being quarantined off site, a requirement under state Public Health Law, officials said. A court will decide what happens to the animals, Sheriff Jeffrey Smith said.
The shelter could not be reached for immediate comment.
