Troopers: Schenectady mother, Rotterdam son charged in Altamont Fair assaults, one with Taser

ALTAMONT A Schenectady mother and her Rotterdam son were arrested Sunday, accused in a series of assaults in the Altamont Fair Grounds parking lot Sunday evening, New York State Police said.

Angelique E. Anaya, 37, of Schenectady, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree assault, a felony, along with two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, misdemeanors, police said.

Anaya’s son, Sacario E. Anaya, 19, of Rotterdam, was also arrested, charged with one count of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, police said.

Police responded Sunday night at about 8:10 p.m. to the fair parking lot for a report of a physical altercation, police said.

The investigation determined both suspects got out of their vehicle and then assaulted multiple people, police said. Angelique Anaya is accused of using a Taser during the fight.

Police did not indicate whether the suspects had any connection to the people they’re accused of attacking or identify an alleged motive.

Both Anayas were arrested and processed. Sacario Anaya was released to appear in court later. Angelique Anaya was arraigned and released to return to court later.
