The Tri-City ValleyCats were victorious on the field Friday night, beating the Empire State Greys 12-6 at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, but results elsewhere meant that the ValleyCats were eliminated from Frontier League playoff contention.

Tri-City’s playoff hopes ended with the Ottawa Titans’ 4-1 win over the Quebec Capitales.

On the field, the ValleyCats responded to an early 4-0 deficit with a four-run third. Empire State took the lead on a two-run John Benevolent home run in the top of the fifth, but the ValleyCats struck for three runs in the bottom of that inning to take the lead, then put the game away with five runs in the eighth.

Pavin Parks went 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the ValleyCats, who pounded out 19 hits. Tri-City’s top four hitters — Jesus Lujano, Parks, Brad Zunica and Joe Campagna — combined for 12 hits and eight RBIs.
