SECTION II – Week 2 high school football action starts Friday.

Before that, The Daily Gazette is rolling out its first look at the top teams in each Section II classification.

Rankings were voted on by a panel made up of Daily Gazette director of content Michael Kelly, deputy director of content Adam Shinder, staff writers Paul Wager and Will Springstead, and contributor Jim Schiltz.

CLASS AA

No. 1 CBA (2-0) has reeled off back-to-back wins over Class A foes and visits Shaker in Week 2’s biggest Class AA game. No. 2 Shenendehowa (1-0) opened its season with a win over La Salle Institute, while Shaker (1-1) and Guilderland (1-0) are tied at No. 3 after solid Week 1 performances. At No. 5, Saratoga Springs (1-1) gets in after its 21-7 win over Niskayuna.

This week: CBA, Shenendehowa, Shaker (tie), Guilderland (tie), Saratoga Springs, Bethlehem (Also receiving votes).

CLASS A

No. 1 Ballston Spa (2-0) has been impressive in back-to-back wins over Class AA foes Saratoga Springs and Colonie. No. 2 Amsterdam (1-0) plays its home opener Friday against Queensbury, while No. 3 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (0-1) and No. 4 Averill Park (1-1) meet in a clash of ranked teams. No. 5 Niskayuna (1-1) has a challenging non-division game on tap against La Salle.

This week: Ballston Spa, Amsterdam, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Averill Park, Niskayuna, Troy (ARV).

CLASS B

No. 1 Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (2-0) has looked every bit the part of a repeat championship contender thus far, and last year’s runner-up No. 2 Gloversville (2-0) has been on the same trajectory. No. 3 Glens Falls (1-0) gets a chance for redemption from last year’s Section II semifinal loss to Ravena when the top teams meet Friday. No. 4 Scotia-Glenville (1-1) visits Cohoes on Saturday, and No. 5 Green Tech (0-1) takes on Schalmont.

This week: Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, Gloversville, Glens Falls, Scotia-Glenville, Green Tech, Hudson Falls (ARV).

CLASS C

No. 1 Schuylerville (2-0) put away Hoosick Falls/Tamarac in Week 1 and hosts Granville/Whitehall this week. No. 2 Stillwater (2-0) should get its biggest test this season at Hoosick Falls/Tamarac, while No. 3 Fonda-Fultonville (2-0) gets a local rivalry game at Johnstown. No. 4 Warrensburg/Lake George/North Warren has outscored its first two opponents 123-6, and No. 5 Broadalbin-Perth (2-0) has allowed just six points through two games.

This week: Schuylerville, Stillwater, Fonda-Fultonville, Warrensburg/North Warren/Lake George, Broadalbin-Perth, Cobleskill-Richmondville (ARV).

CLASS D

After a relatively down year in 2021, No. 1 Cambridge/Salem (2-0) has looked the part of a traditional power thus far in 2022. No. 2 Voorheesville (2-0) visits No. 3 Greenwich (1-1) this week in an early-season showdown of potential contenders. No. 4 Canajoharie/Fort Plain (1-0) has a big home game Friday against Cambridge/Salem, while No. 5 Chatham (1-1) gets a very long road trip Saturday to face Corinth/Fort Edward/Hadley-Luzerne.

This week: Cambridge/Salem, Voorheesville, Greenwich, Canajoharie/Fort Plain, Chatham, Helderberg Valley (ARV).
