ALBANY — UAlbany announced its full 2022-23 men’s basketball schedule Tuesday, a season that will feature the Great Danes playing their home games at Hudson Valley Community College due to ongoing renovations at SEFCU Arena.
UAlbany’s schedule, which features 15 non-conference and 16 America East Conference games, will be heavy on travel. The Great Danes will only play three of their 15 non-conference games at HVCC — Nov. 14 against Union, Nov. 26 against Florida Atlantic and Dec. 14 against LIU Brooklyn.
UAlbany is coming off a 13-18 overall record and a 9-9 America East mark in 2021-22, head coach Dwayne Killings’ first season as head coach.
The season opens with back-to-back road games Nov. 7 and 8 against Towson and Division III foe Union, before the return of the Albany Cup against Siena in a neutral site game at MVP Arena. After hosting Union at HVCC, UAlbany will visit St. Joe’s on Nov. 17 in Philadelphia before a pair of games at the Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach, Florida on Nov. 21 and 22.
UAlbany’s December non-conference slate includes a pair of road games against 2022 NCAA Tournament teams — Dec. 10 at Providence and Dec. 18 at Loyola Chicago — before wrapping up Dec. 28 with a trip to Virginia of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
America East play opens Dec. 31 with a home game against New Hampshire. Key dates in conference play include the team’s first trip to face America East newcomer Bryant on Jan. 11, and matchups with defending conference champion Vermont at home on Feb. 4 and on the road in the regular-season finale on Feb. 28.
UALBANY WOMEN SET AMBITIOUS SCHEDULE
Coming off the program’s first America East Conference tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017, head coach Colleen Mullen’s UAlbany women’s team will also play a road-heavy schedule in 2022-23 with home games at HVCC.
UAlbany went 23-10 in 2021-22, beating Maine to win the conference tournament before a first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Louisville. The Great Danes’ record included a 16-1 mark at SEFCU Arena.
UAlbany’s 2022-23 season opens Nov. 11 against Merrimack at HVCC, before a trip to Siena two days later for the Albany Cup. November’s slate also includes a Nov. 25-27 trip to Las Vegas for the UNLV Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Great Danes’ December non-conference slate includes three trips to Power 5 conference programs — Boston College on Dec. 10, Ohio State on Dec. 16 and Syracuse on Dec. 20 — before America East play gets underway Dec. 29 with a home game against Vermont.
UAlbany’s rematches from last season’s conference championship game with Maine are slated for Jan. 28 in Orono, Maine and Feb. 18 at HVCC in UAlbany’s regular-season home finale.
