Sports Briefs: BH-BL graduate Hartpence recognized by league

St. John Fisher freshman Kayla Hartpence, a Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake graduate, was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for women’s volleyball. In a tri-match against Geneseo and Heidelberg, she had 17 digs and four assists in one match, and 13 digs and four assists in the other.

UALBANY’S SHANNON EARNS WEEKLY AWARD

UAlbany men’s soccer goalkeeper Daniel Shannon was named America East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. He earned his first career shutout in the Great Danes’ 1-0 victory over Pennsylvania. Shannon made four saves and defended against 16 Quakers corner kicks.

BRITT CHOSEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Saint Rose senior forward Kaelyn Britt was named the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday. Britt had two goals in the Golden Knights’ 4-0 win at Caldwell, and then accounted for the go-ahead goal in a 3-1 win over Franklin Pierce.

LYNCH RECOGNIZED BY NEWMAC

Babson College graduate student Izzy Lynch, from Niskayuna, was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Lynch had two goals in the Beavers’ win over Brandeis, then added the game’s opening goal in the team’s win over Eastern Connecticut State.
