
Union College senior running back Ike Irabor earned Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the team’s 21-6 win over Springfield, while RPI senior Conner Noyes and freshman Aleksandar Maric were named the league’s Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week for their efforts in the Engineers’ 37-0 win over WPI.
Irabor racked up a season-high 124 rushing yards to lead all players. He also had a 74-yard touchdown run. His 3,089 career rushing yards put him only 20 yards away from fourth place in program history.
A linebacker, Noyes led the team in tackles with nine, including five unassisted, two for lost yards and an 8-yard sack. He also returned an interception 12 yards. Maric, a kicker, made his only field goal attempt, was 4 for 5 on extra points and averaged 50.9 yards on kickoffs.
BOYLE CAPTURES STAGE WIN
Niskayuna’s Evan Boyle, riding for the Capital Bicycle Racing Club, won the men’s junior 10-18 time trial at the Green Mountain Stage Race on Sept. 2 in Warren, Vermont.
Boyle finished the race in 13 minutes, 55.6 seconds, beating the runner-up by more than seven seconds. He also placed eighth in the stage 3 road race in App Gap, Vermont to help him place third in the general classification. He was just 11 overall seconds behind the second-place finisher and 19 behind the winner.
POFFENBARGER HONORED
UAlbany quarterback Reese Poffenbarger was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week following a historic performance against Fordham on Saturday.
Poffenbarger completed 25 of 40 passes for a school-record 412 yards and three touchdowns in the Great Danes’ 48-45 loss. The school record was previously held by Jeff Undercuffler and Joe Savino, who each threw for 398 yards.
PIRAINO GETS WEEKLY AWARD
UAlbany junior Olivia Piraino was named America East Offensive Player of the Week for women’s soccer. Piraino, a midfielder from Niskayuna, scored both Great Danes goals in their conference opener at New Hampshire over the weekend. She has three for the season.
HOUSE EARNS NAC HONOR
SUNY Cobleskill freshman Joshua House, from Saratoga Springs, was named the North Atlantic Conference’s Golf Rookie of the Week on Monday. House won the individual title at Russell Sage’s Gator Invitational at Colonie Golf & Country Club by shot a two-over-par 74.
GEMMETT EARNS THIRD-STRAIGHT AWARD
SUNY Cobleskill freshman Jack Gemmett was named the North Atlantic Conference’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the period ending Sunday. Gemmett, a Schalmont graduate, placed 90th overall in a field of 311 runners at the University of Rochester’s Yellowjacket Invitational. He ran the 4.97-mile course in 27:57.6.
