FONDA On paper, the 64-mile one-way bus trip might be one of the more difficult parts of Fonda-Fultonville’s Class C South Division football game at Coxsackie-Athens at 7 p.m. Friday. Therein lies the trap.

The Braves (2-0 division, 3-0 overall), ranked sixth in the state Class C poll, have to stay focused as they play the winless Riverhawks. Fonda has allowed just 33 points, while the Riverhakws haven’t scored any.

Fonda-Fultonville is coming off a 49-13 win over Johnstown. Senior Jackson Cusak threw for three touchdowns, returned two kickoffs for scores and added a rushing touchdown. He also had two interceptions.

The Braves were opportunistic against Johnstown, as the Sir Bills’ turnovers led to 21 of the Braves’ 28 points in the first half.

Besides Cusak’s strong game, Jose Vargas rushed seven times for 73 yards and one touchdown.

Also Friday night at 7 is a Class D game, with Canajoharie/Fort Plain (1-1) traveling to take on Greenwich (2-0, 2-1). The Witches are the defending Section II Class D champions and ranked 13th in the state Class D poll.

Jayden Johnson and Jaxon O’Neil scored late touchdowns for Canajoharie/Fort Plain. Greenwich is coming off a 20-17 win over Voorheesville.

Finally, on Saturday, Mohonasen (0-0, 1-2) travels to Amsterdam (0-0, 2-0) for a Class A Capital Division matchup at 1:30 p.m. It is homecoming for Amsterdam.

The Rams, ranked 20th in the state Class A poll, put together a solid second half last week, outscoring Queensbury 34-0, en route to a 60-35 win. Jhai Vellon threw for seven touchdowns, rushed for another and accounted for  445 yards.

Mohonasen is coming off a 14-0 loss to Albany. This will be the first time the teams have played since the Fall II season in the spring of 2021, when Mohonasen won 15-12.
