High schools: West scores twice, Niskayuna hands Saratoga Springs girls’ soccer first loss

NISKAYUNA Kaleigh West scored twice as Niskayuna edged Saratoga Springs 2-1 in a Suburban Council girls’ soccer game Thursday, handing the Blue Streaks their first loss of the season.

Fiona Bean assisted on West’s 17th-minute goal, and West added an unassisted goal in the 78th minute.

Ava Goodman scored for Saratoga Springs (6-1 league, 7-1 overall) in the 79th minute, with Annalise Rodriguez providing the assist. Niskayuna got 11 saves from Anna Joyce and 10 stops from Maddie Mills, while Saratoga Springs goalie Olivia Goodman stopped 12 shots.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Averill Park 2-0, with Samantha Torres putting home both goals for the Spartans.

Kamilla Conboy and Kendyl Ouimette scored to provide Columbia a 2-1 win over Shaker, while Micaela Tahoe found the back of the net for Shaker.

In Western Athletic Conference play, Berne-Knox-Westerlo got goals from Claire Scram, Lauren Emerich and Katie Stevens in a 3-1 win over Duanesburg. Marissa James scored for Duanesburg, with Molly Laudato providing the assist.

Five different players scored for Amsterdam in its 5-0 Foothills Council win over Glens Falls. Madison Cebula led the way with a goal and two assists, while Madisyn Meca and Julia Dion each had a goal and an assist, Anne Stanavich and Felise Fowler scored a goal apiece and Nikki Turney chipped in an assist. Amsterdam’s Carolyn Sculco recorded a shutout in goal with seven saves, and Glens Falls got five saves from Sarah Wolfstitch.

Schuylerville’s Amanda Pflieger had three goals and an assist in a 10-0 win over Gloversville. Macey Koval added two goals and two assists for Schuylerville, which also got a goal each from Keira Rogan, Victoria Piferi, Anika Buff, Anna Armstrong and Lexi Hewitt. Goalie Taylor Barraclough recorded the shutout with two saves.

Broadalbin-Perth was a 5-1 winner over South Glens Falls with a goal apiece from Mianna Barboza, Jillian Sassanella, Aubrey Fisher, Olivia Rogers and Chase Tyler, along with three saves from Mairead Marsden. Ashlyn Fish scored and Elena Kennedy made seven saves for South Glens Falls.

AYERS LEADS GUILDERLAND PAST CBA

Leon Edelmann had two goals and an assist, and Billy Bogue scored twice as Guilderland, after falling behind 1-0, beat CBA 6-1 in Suburban Council boys’ soccer.

Jack Ayers added a goal and an assist for the Dutchmen. Ronnie Kibet also scored for Guilderland, which had five goals in the second half. Owen Shepard had three assists. Dixon Van Epps scored for the Brothers.

Ryan Farr had a goal and an assist in Saratoga Springs’ 3-0 win over Niskayuna. Nicholas Varghese and Aidan Rosette also scored for the Blue Streaks, Theo Paladini and Owen Winter added an assist apiece, and Ben Van Valkenburg notched the shutout with two saves. For Niskayuna, goalie Eric Thurm stopped four shots.

Northville picked up a 5-0 Western Athletic Conference win over Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Duanesburg, led by goals from Erik Gutowski, Lanson Ginter, Miles Weaver, Jacob Frank and JT Artikuski. Ginter added two assists, with Weaver and Frank adding one each. Zack Schwenk scored for B-K-W/Duanesburg.

BH-BL VOLLEYBALL WINS AGAIN

Leah Scalise had eight kills and two blocks Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake rolled past Averill Park in straight sets, 25-11, 25-14, 25-9, in a Suburban Council girls’ volleyball matchup.

Abbie Harper added 13 digs and three aces for the Spartans, and Emily Prest totaled four kills, five assists and three blocks.

In a rollercoaster five-set match, Saratoga Springs beat Niskayuna 25-15, 15-25, 26-24, 24-26, 15-4, led by Brianna Cassia’s 12 assists, 11 digs, six aces and three kills. Sam Tracy added eight kills and two blocks, and Kadyn Castillo chipped in 13 digs for the Blue Streaks. For Niskayuna, Ava Schewe notched 13 kills and Anjana Kurian contributed nine kills, nine digs and 20 assists.

In Shenendehowa’s 25-8, 25-14, 25-13 win over Colonie, Emma Paliwodzinski had 11 service points and 26 assists, Grace Almeida put up nine blocks and six kills, Kasia Barletta tallied 12 digs and both Christina de la Rocha and Kayla Kean contributed five kills.

Bethlehem defeated Albany 25-11, 25-22, 25-18. Bella Perrotto had eight kills and Ava Rivers chipped in nine assists and an ace for Bethlehem.

In a five-set Foothills Council girls’ volleyball match, Amsterdam beat Glovesrville 25-22, 12-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-4. Payton Hoefs led Amsterdam with 18 service points, including four aces, along with three kills and two digs, while Lia Oviedo had five aces among her 13 points. In defeat, Gloversville got 12 kills from Zoie Tesi, eight kills from Jackie Rattray and 24 assists from Allie Salvione.

Cobleskill-Richmondville got seven kills and 10 service points from Samantha Rogers in its 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 Colonial Council win over Albany Academy. Also contributing for Cobleskill-Richmondville were Claudia Walrath with a team-high nine kills, Claire Matice with 12 digs and Kiley Ellis with nine service points.

Mohonasen beat Lansingburgh in straight sets 25-13, 25-21, 26-24, behind 11 kills and six aces from Ava Quenneville. Also in the win, Alexis Haley dished out 27 assists and Emily Lindemann compiled seven kills, three blocks and three aces.

NISKAYUNA NOTCHES NON-LEAGUE WIN

Adelyn Farrell scored twice to lead Niskayuna to a 4-1 non-league field hockey victory over Glens Falls. Ali Card and Harper Stevens also scored for the Silver Warriors. Kendal Gross had the Glens Falls goal.

In the Foothills Council, Johnstown rolled to a 12-0 win over Gloversville. Emily Pertell, Jena Barker and Nicole Wendolski scored two goals apiece for Johnstown, Cole Krempa added a goal and three assists and Nicole Simone, Reegan Wilcox, Amia Hall, Ayaka Sasaki and Ally Salamack also scored.
