CLIFTON PARK – A traffic stop earlier this week led to the discovery a “large quantity” of cocaine and to the arrests of two New Jersey men, New York State Police said.
One of the suspects then assaulted troopers while being arrested, police said.
Troopers stopped the car for multiple traffic violations just before noon Monday on Interstate 87 in Clifton Park, police said. Inside, they found the cocaine, police said.
Troopers then arrested both the driver and passenger. Police identified the driver as Luis A. Laboy, 30, of Jersey City, N.J., and Joel Cruz, 29, of Union City, N.J.
Laboy and Cruz each face two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies, along with misdemeanor second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Cruz was also charged with second-degree assault, a felony. Police did not provide further details on the alleged assault.
Laboy and Cruz were arraigned and ordered held without bail.
