COLONIE Colonie Police Tuesday identified an Amsterdam man as the motorcyclist killed in a Saturday motorcycle-SUV crash in Colonie.

Charles L. Fowler, 39, died in the Saturday evening crash, police said in a release. A department spokesman later identified him as from Amsterdam.

The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Central and Hawley avenues, police said. Colonie police and EMS responded.

“It was reported that a motorcycle had been traveling east on Central Ave at a high rate of speed,” police wrote in a release. “An SUV had just pulled out of the parking lot of Delmonico’s and merged into traffic, also going east on Central Ave.”

A short distance later, police said, the motorcyclist rear-ended the SUV and the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle.

Fowler was treated at the scene but died of his injuries.

“Speed and alcohol are considered to be contributing factors,” police wrote.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Jacqueline Rodriguez, 38, of Schenectady, was not injured, no charges are pending and she is not suspected of wrongdoing, police said.

The Colonie Police Traffic Safety Unit is investigating. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who was in the area at the time is asked to contact investigators at 518-783-2744.
