Union women’s hockey loses to Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. Alexia Moreau scored twice, and Holy Cross held on to beat Union 4-3 in a non-conference women’s college hockey game Friday.

Moreau gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead just over seven minutes into their season opener. She scored again at 4:42 of the third period to make it 3-1.

Freshman forward Riley Walsh scored her fourth goal, and her second power-play tally of the season for the Dutchwomen (1-2) just past the midway portion of the second period to tie the score. Darci Johal gave Holy Cross the lead with 5:28 left in the second.

Amanda Quan pulled Union to within 3-2 at 8:02 of the third with her first goal of the season. Mary Edmonds made it 4-2 2:37 later.

With Union goalie Sophie Matsoukas pulled for an extra attacker, Emily King scored her second goal of the season with 1:49 left to pull the Dutchwomen within one.

Stephanie Bourque assisted on all three Union goals.

The two teams play again at 2 p.m. Saturday.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Taylor Lind had two goals and two assists as the Huskies beat the Engineers in the season opener for both teams.

Jenniina Nylund, Taytum Geier and Emma Gentry also scored for St. Cloud State.
