King leads Union women’s hockey to win over Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. Team captain Emily King scored twice Saturday as the Union College women’s hockey team earned a split of its two-game series against Holy Cross with a 3-1 non-conference victory at the Hart Center.

Union (2-2) lost 4-3 on Friday.

King gave the Dutchwomen a 1-0 lead when she scored midway through the first period. She made it 2-0 with her fourth goal of the season late in the second period.

Alexia Moreau, who scored twice in Friday’s game, pulled the Crusaders (1-1) within one midway through the third period. But Amanda Quan’s empty-net goal, her second tally of the weekend, with 21 seconds left clinched the victory for the Dutchwomen.

Dutchwomen goalie Sophie Matsoukas made 31 saves, including 19 in the second period.

Union continues its season-opening eight-game road trip next weekend against Providence on Friday and Boston University next Saturday.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Addi Scribner’s early third-period goal proved to be the game-winner as the Huskies edged the Engineers.

Second-period power-play goals by Klara Hymlarova and Emma Gentry gave St. Cloud State a 2-0 lead. Maddy Peterson scored for RPI under seven minutes into the period.

After Scribner’s goal, Taylor Larsen got RPI within one just over eight minutes into the third.
