Troopers: Wilton traffic stop on Northway leads to Schoharie man’s weapons arrest

WILTON A Schoharie man was arrested Sunday on a weapons charge after a Northway traffic stop lead to the discovery of an illegally possessed gun, New York State Police said.

Donnell P. Windley, Jr., 33, of Schoharie, was charged with one count each of second-degree and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, along with misdemeanor seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Troopers stopped Windley just before 5:30 p.m. for an equipment violation, police said. Troopers then identified the driver as Windley, who is currently under federal probation supervision, according to police.

An investigation then determined Windley illegally possessed a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine, as well as drugs, police said.

Windley was arraigned and ordered held without bail.
