Troopers assigned to the department’s Community Stabilization Unit made the stop. The investigation then led to the discovery of the cannabis in the vehicle, police said. A release did not indicate what led to the stop.

Police arrested both the driver and the passenger, identified as Tongdeng Lu, 63, of Brooklyn, and Hongqiang Shi, 28, of Flushing, and charged them both with first-degree criminal possession of cannabis, a felony, police said.

The two were arraigned and released to return to court later.
