Make use of city’s commission gov’t
It was good to read that The Gazette’s editorial board finds that Saratoga Springs’ Commission form of government can be utilized to confront our recurring downtown late-night violence. (“Pump brakes on responses to Spa City nightlife”) in the Dec. 4 Gazette.
The Gazette reminds readers that the commission form is designed to solve a city’s problem and recommends “assigning different parts of the problem to a different commissioner, then bring together their information and expertise to address the issues at hand.”
Our City Council should follow their recommendation to act with “full knowledge of the specific issues and full understanding,” taking advantage of the commission’s professional approach.

Close kitchens later to sober up drivers
As someone who frequently entertains out-of-town guests after shows in Albany or Schenectady, I would like to submit that part of the 2 a.m. versus 4 a.m. issue is not how late bars stay open, but how early most kitchens close.
Many serve drinks into the wee hours, but close their kitchens before 11 p.m. This does not allow for sobering up.
As for the amusing tussle between Neil Golub and Bob Belive over “New Schenectady” versus “Schenectady Now,” may I suggest a compromise: “Schenectady: New for Now!”

Suspect’s release shows failed justice
On Jan. 1, 2022, a 25-year-old man was fatally stabbed to death. The person who stabbed this man was sent to jail but later was released. He is free on bail. To me this is shocking.
I did not know you can murder someone and go home and wait for a trial. He was even seen shopping at a store. The Justice system has failed.
