The driver, identified as Thomas, failed to stop and a pursuit began, police said. Thomas soon lost control of his vehicle and struck a guide rail and came to a stop. He then got out and attempted to flee on foot. Police then took him into custody after a short foot chase. He was uninjured, police said.

Thomas was processed and his blood alcohol content was recorded as 0.07, high enough to be charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol, police said.

He was released to the custody of Colonie police for an unrelated outstanding warrant. He is due to appear in Rotterdam court later.
