The UAlbany women’s lacrosse program has been picked to finish second in the 2023 America East Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference announced Thursday.

The Great Danes have been picked second in the preseason poll each season since 2010, except for last year, when they shared the second spot with UMBC, but fell behind the Retrievers’ one-first place vote.

UAlbany received 33 points and three first-place votes, just behind preseason favorite Vermont’s 34 points and four first-place votes. The Great Danes and Catamounts met in the 2022 America East title game, with the Catamounts winning by a goal.

UMBC and conference newcomer Bryant each earned 21 points behind the top two teams.  Binghamton was fifth with 18 points, UMass Lowell sixth with 12 points and New Hampshire seventh with eight points.

Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.

UAlbany opens the 2023 season on Feb. 12 at Johns Hopkins, and hosts its home opener against Cornell on Feb. 18.
