High Schools: Duanesburg girls rout Fort Plain, remain undefeated in WAC

HIGH SCHOOLS – Duanesburg took down Fort Plain 70-31 Monday, remaining undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play.

Hannah Mulhern, Alex Moses and Allison O’Hanlon scored 16 points each for the Eagles (10-0 WAC, 12-4 overall). Mulhern collected seven rebounds in the effort and Moses supplied six assists.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons ran past Middleburgh in a 60-21 win Monday. Angelina Deitz scored 32 points for the Golden Knights. Sarah Schafroth led Middleburgh with 10.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo rolled past Galway 59-30. Claire Scram poured in 23 points for the Bulldogs. Grace O’Brien scored 10 for the Golden Eagles.

Gloversville found its scoring stroke in the second half, and went on to beat Johnstown 44-20 in a Foothills Council matchup.

The team’s entered halftime tied 10-10, but the Dragons won the third quarter 21-6 to break the game open. Gloversville’s Zoie Tesi led all scorers with 20 points.

South Glens Falls held off Broadalbin-Perth 41-39. Alivia Killian scored 16 points for the Bulldogs. Mairead Marsden led the Patriots with 10.

Queensbury held Glens Falls scoreless for nearly the first seven minutes en route to a commanding 57-22 victory. Shea Canavan led the Spartans with 22 points, eight steals, six rebounds and five assists.

Tamarac edged out Mechanicville 47-41 in Wasaren League play. Abby Yetto led the Bengals with 15 points. Allison Kenyon scored a game-high 16 for the Red Raiders.

F-F, OESJ GRAB WAC WINS

Fonda-Fultonville boys’ basketball got off to a fast start in its 53-32 Western Athletic Conference win over Mayfield.

Brady Melious led the Braves with 12 points. The Panthers’ Trevor Ruberti led all scorers with 17 points in the loss.

OESJ overcame a tough first quarter to beat Fort Plain 68-50. Collin Eakin scored 29 points to pace the Wolves. Cam David led the Hilltoppers with 16.

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Cobleskill-Richmondville 52-46 in non-league play. The Bulldogs’ Ty LaBarge scored 20 points in the loss. Riley Kellam and Jack McFerran scored 10 points apiece for the Indians.

LEONARD WINS AT WEST

Shenendehowa’s Micaela Leonard won the girls’ Shenendehowa’s Brandon Sherwood Memorial alpine skiing race at West Mountain Monday. Leonard had runs of 27.83 and 27.93 seconds for a combined result of 55.76 seconds. Broadalbin-Perth’s Colin Cotter won the boys’ race at with runs of 26.9 and 27.15 seconds for a combined result of 54.05 seconds.

HIGGINS DUAL WINNER

Shaker senior Kaleigh Higgins swept the girls’ 1,000 meters (3:02.07) and 1,500 (4:41.83) in Division 1 of the Section II indoor track and field championships at Union College on Sunday.

Guilderland senior Megan Swan won the 45 (6.34) and 300 (43.58) and also ran a leg on Guilderland’s winning 800 relay.

In the Division 1 pole vault, Shenendehowa senior Nathan Decker cleared 12-6 to win the boys’ event, and Saratoga Springs junior Amelia McBain posted a personal-record 12-3 on the girls’ side.

In Division 3, Schuylerville’s Ryan Stark won three of the four field events, with a 9-6 in the pole vault, a 16-2.75 in the long and 34-3.50 in the triple jump.

Her teammate Keira Rogan doubled in the 1,500 (5:02.37) and the 3,000 (11:27.22).

On the boys’ side, Scotia-Glenville’s Tyler Knaggs won the 1,000 in 2:48.86 and the 1,600 in 4:45.45.

Broadalbin-Perth’s Rylee VanAlstine won the 300 (38.77) and 600 (1:29.16) and ran a leg on the Patriots’ winning 1,600 relay, and teammate Stephen Chrysler helped B-P win the 800 relay and 1,600 relay and won the long jump.

Team results will be completed next weekend after the shot put and weight throw are contested.
