WILTON – Liquidation sales will begin at the Bed Bath & Beyond store located on Route 50 in the Shoppes At Wilton over the next few weeks and months as the company prepares to close that location.
It has been widely reported that the retail company is closing an additional 87 stores on top of the 150 it announced it would be shuttering in late August.
“As we work with our advisors to consider multiple paths, we are implementing actions to manage our business as efficiently as possible,” the company said in a statement. “We continue our analysis of our store footprint based on a variety of factors, and together with our advisors, have identified additional Bed Bath & Beyond store closures that we will implement in a timely manner.”
The company said it has told employees the store would be closing. The company would not comment on the number of employees affected at the Wilton location or how large of a retail space they occupied.
The retailer, which was known for its 20% off coupon, was founded in 1971 and sold a host of items including houseware and home decorations.
Over the last several years the company has been closing stores as it looked at ways to stay in business. It is anticipated that the company will file for bankruptcy this week, according to various media reports.
