BALLSTON SPA — Dozens of students throughout the region will descend on Ballston Spa High School on Saturday to compete in the Capital Region Science Olympiad Tournament, a rigorous academic competition focused on various science disciplines.
A total of 20 schools throughout the region are expected to compete in the tournament, including high schools from Ballston Spa, Niskayuna and Schalmont.
The competition will include a number of events relating to various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. Some of the events at the daylong competition are, gravity powered cars, bridge and plan building and catapult.
Winners of the tournament will advance to the state finals that will take place in April. The national tournament will happen in May.
The event is open to the public and will begin a 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will take place beginning at 4 p.m.
