Display more of Schenectady’s tech
I would like to expand on Michael Goren’s excellent letter of Jan. 24, (“Capitalize on city’s technology legacy.”)
In addition to the collection at miSci, the Edison Tech Center has a collection of objects that were built or designed in Schenectady by GE and other companies.
The Edison Tech Center was founded in 2001 under the name Edison Exploratorium by retired GE engineer John Harden and is now the Edison Tech Center.
For many years, they were located at 136 North Broadway in downtown Schenectady and were open to the public and school groups. In 2018, they lost their lease. Their collection, which would be a valuable addition to Schenectady’s technology heritage, was moved to a warehouse at The Daily Gazette.
The Edison Tech Center maintains an online presence at https://edisontechcenter.org/ and http://www.edisontc.org/.
In addition to GE, Schenectady was home to the American Locomotive Company, which built the world’s largest steam locomotive, The Big Boy, during 1941 to 1944. These massive locomotives had a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, with 16 driving wheels, arranged in two independent groups of eight, weighed 1.2 million pounds, and were more than half the length of a 747 jumbo jet.
Of the original 25 locomotives, seven are on public display, the nearest being in Scranton, Pa. A restored and operational Big Boy is on display in Cheyenne, Wy.
We cannot expect to get a Big Boy locomotive to display outside miSci, though we could add a Big Boy model to the miSci electric train display, along with historical videos and displays.

Use tax dollars to fix Niskayuna roads
I support many initiatives that the town of Niskayuna is currently proposing and engaged in. However, the state of the roads in the town requires immediate attention.
Dean Street, between Lexington and Niskayuna Drive, looks like it was strip-mined. The temporary patches are crumbling, and holes and debris are getting dangerous. Similarly, Niskayuna Drive looks like a military base airport strip. It’s disintegrating.
Niskayuna residents, like me, don’t mind paying taxes.
They need to be used to repair the roads. Not with temporary “cold patch” or strips of pavement. It’s getting dangerous to drivers, bikers, pedestrians and pets. We deserve better before people and property get injured, or damaged.

Consider unborn in state referendum
With reference to Maysoon Kahn’s article (“NY pols OK vote on constitution change to protect abortion,”) in the Jan. 25 Daily Gazette: What is “discrimination based on pregnancy outcomes”? Whether the outcome is a boy or girl? Twins? Has healthy prospects? Or is it wanted or not?
As for reproductive rights, I think nature has the last word on that. Avoid sex, resulting in no unwanted pregnancies. Is that tough? Oftentimes, yes.
But should we dump the consequences on an innocent baby? We are the responsible adults.
What kind of country are we promoting by proclaiming (and I quote from the published article): “This is our mandate to continue strengthening New York’s status as a destination state where reproductive freedoms are protected and the right to choose is guaranteed.”
Destination designations are for joyous happenings such as weddings and baby showers.
Also, please stop putting issues like gender identity in the same basket. It purposely serves to muddle both issues.

Okay if the women gets an abortion then she obviously does not want children why just sterilize her so she can have all the unprotected sex with as many partners as she wants and never have to worry about abortions? No different than suggesting men getting a vasectomy. You are correct men cannot get an abortion, yet a women would not need one is it weren’t for a man.

The editorial “Right’s meltdown…” on p. A8 covers the “silliest right-wing controversy yet.” In his ridiculous attempt to create conflict over trite issues, far-right spokesperson Tucker Carlson expressed growing anger over Mars’ changes in ads for M&Ms, and in so doing made a fool of himself and MAGA culture wars. He fumed “that the green M&M might be a lesbian.” He decried the M&Ms portrayal as “non-binary candy.” Earlier he had expressed his disgust at Mars’ decision to change the M&M footwear from stilettos to sneakers.”M&Ms will not be happy until every last cartoon character is deeply unappealing and totally androgynous” said the far-right nutjob who apparently has some strange sexual fantasies about M&Ms.

Listened to a recent interview with William Forstchen novel one second after. Our government knows the dangers and we are ill prepared for such a crisis. A recent computer malfunction shut down the airways for days before they could get things back to normal. An EMP would destroy our entire grid system with no back up transformers and plan to restore basic power.
The interview was called the COVID blue print. Is there a connection to the WEF war-game on a pandemic a plan for global control? Is the war game a precursor to a second attempt for global control. If the infrastructure shutdown it would take 5 years for the Eastern part of the U.S. to regain 80% CAPACITY.
This is a real threat regardless of what you believe about the WEF. We have people shooting at or transformers trying to create havoc. We have untold amounts of terrorist coming across our borders that are on the terror watchlist. It took 12 terrorist to cause 9/11. Recently Texas border patrol caught a watchlist terrorist crossing. That’s a total of 28 since the migration/ invasion began.
This should be a priority for our elected officials to guard against not the woke policies and the political attacks on opponents.

Lou my statement about the number of black children in NY being aborted was for every 100 born 76 are aborted. so out of 176 pregnancies only 100 are born. This was a pro-life segment on 103.1 FM. They also talk about the fire bombing of pro life centers by a terrorist group Jane’s Revenge. They have all the proof but the FBI and DOJ fails to prosecute. Yet the raid and arrest a pro-life demonstrator for protecting his son from a planned parenthood escort attacking him. Fortunately the courts rules the DOJ and FBI overreached their authority and charges were dropped. But they raided his home and big publicized raid and noting. Talk about GESTAPO TACTICS to intimedate the population that does not agree with the administration’s approval of murdering fetuses.

In another tweet soon after, Omar named the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, saying it was funding Republican support for Israel.
This tweet received bipartisan backlash, and Omar was widely accused of anti-Semitic speech.
Omar apologized and said she was learning about “the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes” but held onto her criticism of AIPAC’s lobbying.
The latest controversy comes from Omar’s remarks at an event at a Washington bookstore called Busboys and Poets last week. The comment in question refers to the weeks of controversy that followed Omar’s earlier criticism:
“I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country. I want to ask why is it OK for me to talk about the influence of the NRA (National Rifle Association), of fossil fuel industries or Big Pharma, and not talk about a powerful lobbying group that is influencing policies?”
Again, Omar was accused of anti-Semitism.
And let’s not forget Omars response to 9/11 when she said “some people did something” at a CAIR meeting.

Re Louis Restifo’s Feb. 20 letter, “Trump cronies real threat to democracy”: In my opinion, he and his fellow liberals are the cronies being led around by the nose. They suffer from the now-famous “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
If he is so influenced by the FBI and CIA and their findings of our democracy and politics, he should be glad to know that both agencies have stated that there is no collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Here is a quote from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Feb. 16: “The Russian indictments do not accuse any Americans of wrongdoings or that it altered the outcome of the 2016 elections.”
If the Russians’ goal was to sow confusion, discord and rancor among the citizens of the United States, it was very successful, as evidenced by Mr. Restifo and his fake-news-generated opinion.
We need to keep in mind that the Russian meddling into our politics started in 2014 while President Obama was trying to run this country, and he did nothing about it.

Joe, I just looked through the posts and I don’t understand your reference to “name calling”. No one called you a name. Who are “you guys”? What does “ppl” in “I am not calling ppl names on here” refer to?
Supporting President Biden’s reaction to the balloon shouldn’t be turned into a partisan issue, certainly not at this point in time. I agree, you do not call other posters names. However, this post does not comport with the bipartisan person you would like to be.
