SMITHFIELD, R.I. — After losing two of its last three games, the America East-leading UAlbany women’s basketball team got back on track, thanks to a near-perfect performance by Kayla Cooper.
Copper had a double-double to lead the Great Danes to a 56-36 victory over Bryant on Wednesday at Chace Athletic Center.
Cooper scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-5 from the foul line. She also grabbed 12 rebounds, seven of them defensively.
Cooper wasn’t the only UAlbany player to have double-digit rebounds. Guard Ellen Hahne collected 13 rebounds, with 10 of them on defense.
UAlbany (10-2 AE, 16-10 overall) outrebounded Bryant (0-11, 6-18) 50-27.
The Great Danes had a 24-14 halftime lead. The Bulldogs cut to 32-25 after three quarters, but the Great Danes used a 24-11 fourth quarter to pull away for the win. UAlbany, led by Cooper’s 4 for 4 effort, shot 9 for 13 (69.2%) in the fourth. Cooper had nine points, and Marie Sepp added five.
UAlbany returns to action at 4 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Binghamton at Hudson Valley’s McDonough Sports Complex.
