The University at Albany has opened the nomination period for the 2023 Athletics Hall of Fame Class.

From now until Saturday, April 1, individuals may submit nominations for consideration for this year’s class on the UAlbany Athletics Hall of Fame site at https://ualbanysports.com/sb_output.aspx?form=4.

There are five categories: Student-Athlete Nominees, Athletic Staff Nominees, Teams, Honorary Membership and Posthumous Membership.

You can also mail your nominees to UAlbany Athletics, ATTN: Ticket Office, 1400 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12222.

Kids Ice Fishing Derby set

The ninth annual Mariaville Lake Kids Ice Fishing Derby will take place Saturday, Feb. 18.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m, and the fishing ends at 12 p.m. Pizza and prizes will be available and awarded then. All kids under the age of 16 who register for the derby will receive a rigged ice fishing tip-up to fish with and keep while supplies last.

Feb, 18-19 has been designated to be a free fishing weekend by the NYS DEC, so no freshwater fishing license is needed for those over 16 years of age.

The rain date for the derby is Saturday, Feb. 25.

Falcon takes over RPI baseball

Jason Falcon is the new RPI baseball head coach, the school announced Wednesday.

Falcon spent 16 years as head coach at Clark University. Last year, he was head coach at Salem State University. He was also UAlbany’s pitching coach (2020-21).
