NEWARK, N.J. — The UAlbany women’s basketball team took care of business in its final regular-season game by defeating NJIT 59-49 Saturday.

The win allowed the Great Danes to share the regular-season America East title with Vermont. The Catamounts, however, won the tiebreaker for the upcoming league tournament and will have the No. 1 seed, while UAlbany will be seeded second.

UAlbany (14-2 AE, 20-10 overall) jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never relinquished the lead, but NJIT tied it at 18 on its first basket of the second quarter. UAlbany answered with a run of its own and led 36-26 at halftime.

UAlbany held NJIT under 50 points and to 28.1% from the field. Kayla Cooper led UAlbany with her seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Ellen Hahne added 12 points, while Helene Haegerstrand had a strong all-around game with 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks.

UAlbany will host UMass Lowell in the tournament quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hudson Valley Community College.
