MALTA – A Malta sex offender has been arrested, accused of raping a child under the age of 13, New York State Police said Wednesday.
James J. Forgett, 52, was arrested Friday and charged with predatory sexual assault against a child, a top-level felony.
If convicted of that charge, he would face a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
The investigation began in August as troopers received a report that an adult had had physical and sexual contact with a child, police said.
The investigation then determined that Forgett had raped a child under the age of 13 beginning in 2017, police said.
In 2019, Forgett was arrested and charged with first-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor and he is a registered sex offender, police said.
Forgett was arrested at his home, arraigned and ordered held without bail.
Anyone with information about the case or who believes they may also be a victim is asked to contact troopers in Clifton Park at 518-583-7000 or email [email protected].
