Sei’Mir Roberson and Darien Moore combined for 47 points in leading Catholic Central to a 65-52 win over Southampton in the NYSPHSAA Class B boys’ basketball semifinals on Saturday at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.
Roberson scored a game-high 24 points, knocking down 6 of 12 attempts from 3-point range to lead the charge for the C crusaders. Moore added 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, and completed his double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Also for Catholic Central, Qwameik Smith chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.
Naevon Williams scored 19 points and Tyler Blake scored 10 for Southampton.
The Crusaders, the only Section II basketball team to advance to a state final this season, will face Section III champion Westhill — a 63-36 winner over Section V’s Newark in the other Class B semifinal — in the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Glens Falls.
In the Class D semifinals, Section II champion North Warren fell 47-46 to Chapel Field Christian, which overcame a 17-9 deficit after the first quarter.
Noah Stewart scored 14 points for Chapel Field, which also got 11 points each from Mikey Bonagura and Jonah McDuffie.
North Warren’s Derrick Tyrell finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Sean Evans scored 11 points, but North Warreen shot just 4 of 24 from 3-point range as a team.
GREENWICH FALLS IN CLASS C SEMIS
In the NYSPHSAA Class C girls’ basketball semifinals at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, Greenwich suffered its first loss of the season as the Witches fell 70-52 to Millbrook.
Natalie Fox led four Millbrook players in double figures with 19 points, and also grabbed 20 rebounds — including 11 offensive boards. Also for Millbrook, Emily Grassler scored 18 points, Beth Bosan scored 15 and Hudson Heitmann scored 10.
Leading the way for Greeniwch was Norah Niesz, who finished with 22 points. Grace Autiello added 16 points, and Brooke Kuzmich scored 10. Autiello and Niesz each knocked down four 3-pointers.
