Siena men’s lacrosse falls to .500 after loss to VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. — A run over 5 1/2 in the first quarter was what Virginia Military Institute needed to top Siena 14-10 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse action Saturday.

Siena (1-1 MAAC, 3-3 overall) tied the game at 2 on Sean Jeffrey’s unassisted goal. VMI (1-1, 4-4) responded with four unanswered goals from 7:58 to 2:19 to take a 6-2 lead after the first quarter.

The Saints had a 4-0 run of their own from 9:33 of the third quarter to 11:04 of the fourth, with Christian Watts notching two of them, to cut VMI’s lead to 11-10, but the Keydets controlled the scoring the rest of the way.

Jordan Hartley’s four goals and one assist led VMI.

George Rusnak and Watts each had three goals to lead Siena’s offense. Pratt Reynolds added two goals and one assist. Both teams had three extra-man goals, while VMI won 17 of 26 faceoffs.
