HIGH SCHOOLS – Catholic Central, the lone Section II basketball team to reach a NYSPHSAA championship game this season, fell 66-61 to Section III’s Westhill in the boys’ Class B final on Sunday afternoon at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.
The Crusaders fell despite a huge performance from freshman star Darien Moore, who finished with a game-high 29 points. Moore made 10 of 17 attempts from the field, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range.
Catholic Central also got 13 points from Sei’Mir Roberson, but he was held to 3 of 14 shooting and made just one of his eight 3-point attempts. Nick Riley chipped in eight points for Catholic Central.
Westhill, which led 15-10 after the opening quarter and 25-18 at the half, got 18 points apiece from Shawn Mayes and Omar Robinsons, along with 16 points from Kameron Langdon. Westhill also finished with a 32-25 rebounding advantage.
