Driver, 55, dies after late Sunday crash into Duanesburg restaurant, Schenectady Co. Sheriff says

DUANESBURG – A driver died early Monday after his vehicle crashed into a Duanesburg restaurant, Schenectady County Sheriff’s officials said.

The driver, 55, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Ellis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 1 a.m., officials said.

The incident happened just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday night at The Landing On 20 Restaurant, 5055 Western Turnpike, officials said. Deputies responded there for a call of a truck that had crashed into the building.

A responding deputy and a New York State Trooper pulled the man out of the truck and immediately work to try and save his life, but he died later, officials said.

Sheriff’s officials said Monday the man may have had a medical emergency while pulling into the Stewarts Shop at 5060 Western Turnpike and rolled across Western Turnpike, where his truck struck the restaurant building, officials said,

The restaurant sustained some external and internal structural damage as a result, officials said.

The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Team, the sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit, state police, Duanesburg Ambulance and Rotterdam EMS assisted.
